Chanel Velvet Mat Top Coat

Matte Black Nails

I recently bought Chanel’s Beauté Des Ongles Top Coat Velvet and as cliché as it sounds, I have to say it was love at first sight! I was mesmerized at how quickly the gloss turned the whole nail into the perfect matte finish I had imagined.

There’s a lot of options when it comes to choosing the perfect matte top coat. Essie’s “Matte About You” and Sephora’s Matte Top Coat are other ones I’ve heard about, but haven’t tried yet. But if you don’t mind paying a little more, I would highly recommend trying the Chanel one (Buy it here).

To get this look, all you need is to make a trip to the salon and ask for “stiletto nails,” request the blackest color they have (I used Essie’s “Licorice”), and apply the matte top coat to finish it off. If you want to add some fun rings, try Etsy. That’s where I bought mine, and there’s tons more like them! Click the photo below to check out the Glam Gallery, where I posted more pictures of my black matte manicure : )

  1. I love matte nail looks, but I always have to remind myself to use a normal topcoat under them. I have Essie’s Matte About You and since it apparently makes the finish matte by altering the actual applied nail polish, it’ll smear the color across your nail. Not easily noticed when you’ve done one color, but the last time I used it the matte topcoat turned my red and white manicure into red and pink.
