How To: July 4th Beauty

July 4th Beauty

First off, HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, my lovely readers! When I first began this post, it was originally going to be a tutorial for July 4th nails, but let’s be real, unless you have an incredibly steady hand & a ton of spare time, who wants to be painting tiny stars and stripes with a hair-thin brush?! My feelings exactly. As awesome as they look, it’s just not practical for everyone so I thought I would share my take on July 4th beauty and how to incorporate red, white, and blue into your beauty regime!

First, we’ll start out with the nails. When creating a look inspired by something such as a holiday, work of art, etc. it’s really not necessary to take it too literally..meaning you can absolutely create a look inspired by the fourth of July without wearing a flag stamped t-shirt or painting stars and stripes on your nails. I chose to paint my nails with Essie’s famous “Butler Please” (see my review of it here) and even pair it with a matching statement ring.

Once your nails are done, complete your look with either a red or white article of clothing that makes a statement. I chose an Alice +Olivia strong shoulder blazer in a poppy/red shade.

To get this lip color, I first applied MAC’s lip liner pencil in “naked” all over my lips to create a neutral base. I then applied MAC’s “Creme Cup” (one of my all time favorites!) over the liner. It’s not completely necessary to line your lips with a nude pencil first but I have more pigmented lips so I like to add the liner so the true lipstick color shows. Below is MAC’s lipstick in “Creme Cup” and MAC’s lip liner pencil in “Naked.”

For this second look, I chose a bright red lip and a royal blue ruffle top. My all time favorite matte red lipstick is MAC’s “Ruby Woo,” so naturally I chose that for my second July 4th look. Below is MAC’s “Ruby Woo” lipstick and MAC’s lip liner pencil in “cherry” which I used on my lips in the photo above.

  1. These looks are REALLY pretty! It’s refreshing to see something other than stars and stripes for July 4th (even though I’m not American)
