The old saying that the eyes are the window to the soul may be a bit outdated. In the past few years, studies have revealed through eye-tracking software that in ten seconds after meeting a woman for the first time, the average man will spend more than half of that gazing at her mouth. Even more recently, fuller lips have become such a highly-desired feature that lip augmentation procedures have skyrocketed and increased 43% in women since 2000. However, there are a number of other ways to achieve the perfect pout without going under the knife. I have tested and tried countless lip products and discovered how to get the perfect pout.
The Products
1. Fresh Sugar Lip Polish ($24)
The first step in achieving the perfect pout is to exfoliate lips to remove all of the dead skin cells and flakes. My personal favorite lip scrub is the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish. After exfoliating, the next step is to moisturize! With an endless amount of lip balms on the market, it could be tough to know where to start. However, it’s important to find a lip balm that actually works and doesn’t just dry your lips out even more with all of the harmful fragrances and unnecessary ingredients. 3. Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment ($49)
This next step of softening your lips while you sleep can really be done at any time throughout the process of perfecting your pout, but I couldn’t leave it off the list considering how effective the Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment is! Formulated with anti-aging and advanced volumizing technology, this lip treatment smoothes the appearance of feather lines and helps restore volume while you’re sleeping. 4. Bad Medina Lip Liner “Savage” ($14)
Now that your lips have been conditioned and primed to apply a lip color, it’s time to apply lip liner as a base for your lipstick. Lining your lips first will help lipstick stay in place all day and also prevent color from feathering over your lip line. Bad Medina’s Lip Liner is a long-lasting and easy to apply lip liner infused with Baddie Diamonds to capture and reflect light to create studio-effect glam. I chose the color “Savage”, a rich, deep red for this particular red lip, but this liner come in a wide variety of shades.

5. Avon True Color Perfectly Matte Lipstick “Red Supreme” ($8) and Artis Circle 1 Brush ($36)
Once your lips have been lined with the lip liner base, use the Artis Circle 1 Brush to apply Avon’s True Color Matte Lipstick. Begin by applying the lipstick to the brush first, then gently follow the contours of your lips to achieve a full coverage look. I chose Avon’s “Red Supreme” shade for this red lip look. What I love about this lipstick is that although it is 100% matte, it doesn’t dry out your lips and doesn’t crack or cake like many matte lipsticks tend to do. I also love using this Artis brush to apply my lipstick because it ensures the color is evenly distributed. 6. Rimmel London Oh My Gloss! “Crystal Clear” ($6.29)
To finish the look off, apply a dab of Rimmel London’s Oh My Gloss! in “Crystal Clear” to give lips a fuller look. Apply this gloss specifically to the middle of your lips and then carefully press lips together to evenly distribute the gloss. When applied to this area of the lips, the gloss reflects the light which creates an illusion of fuller lips. Buy at WALGREENS.
